IPL-3 Auction: Bond gets to KolKata Knight Riders
It was auction day for cricket players today in IPL3,owners and officials of all the teams participated in the
auction of IPL3 2010 here in Mumbai.Most of the teams retained there key players , the major news was yesterday when Ricky Ponting was released by KKR citing that he would not be available for eight to ten matches of the IPL.
There were speculations regarding who’ll buy Shane Bond as both Dare Devils and Kolkata Night Riders were looking for him.Daredevils were looking for a bowling partner for Ashish Nehra after Glenn McGrath had his $350,000 contract bought out.Knight Riders also eyed Bond a perfect option to complement Ishant Sharma.
Eventually it all ended with Kolkata Knight Riders bought Shane Bond for the same price of RRs 3.41 crore.
Knight Riders have strengthened their line up by finally taking Shane Bond in their team , hoping Bond’s inclusion probably will add some venom to KKR fortunes this season.
Mumbai Indians bought Kieron Pollard (West Indies) for Rs 3.41 crore.He has become the most expensive player in the history of Indian Premier League with the Mumbai Indians shelling out a whopping $2.75 million for him after a four-way silent tie-breaker.
Pollard’s response to his inclusion in Mumbai Indians was ecstatic,he said” It would be pleasure to play alongside Sachin Tendulkar”
The most anticipation for Pak players inclusion has to come an end & eventually no Pak player has been picked in this auction.Before the auction started, Shahid Afridi was considered to be the favorite. However, things did not proceed as expected. None of the franchises showed much interest on this veteran Pakistani player. Fans were surprised to know that this player was not purchased by any team in the first round of auction,looking at his performances
in last T-20 WC 2008.
Shahid Afridi ‘s response to it said it all Afridi commented ” Most of the franchises were ready to buy us but because of Indian Govt pressure they didn’t buy us.
We have a huge fan base in India”
Only two out of 11 Australian players were sold.Damien Martyn and Adam Voges were bought by Rajasthan Royals for $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.Apart from them there were not many Ozzzzzz takers.
Extravagant auction ended with IPL Chairman Lalit Modi brings down the curtains at the DLF IPL 3 Auction as he announces the purchase of Under-19 player Harshal Patel by Mumbai.
Other players, who got the highest bidding, were Kemar Roach, who was sold to Deccan Chargers for Rs 3.28 crore and Wayne Parnel who was sold to Delhi Daredevils for RRs Rs 2.78 crore. Damien Martyn was sold to Rajasthan Royals for Rs 45.5 lakh.
