Indian preparation for World Cup right on track: Wasim Akram

The brave decision of resting key players for the One day series seems to be getting rave reviews from everywhere. The latest to say that it was right decision is none other than former Pakistani Captain Wasim Akram. With the World Cup not even six months away, these are the right tactics used by selectors to check the bench strength.
Speaking to the media, the former fast bowler said that Sehwag and Gambhir being the most explosive opening pair currently it would have been a tough choice for the selectors to rest these two batsmen. With Sachin in the form of his life, it was a brave decision to rest him as well. However the Indian team is going to feel the absence of the bowlers Zaheer and Harbhajan. But this is justified as well, with Zaheer bowling his heart out in the test series and Harbhajan also doing his bit, it was essential to look into the future now.
Akram said, “Indian cricket is surely on the right track. The Test series win against Australia justified their status as world number one and I must applaud the national selectors for doing a good job in picking a balanced side for the two matches.”
Akram expressed that the ODI series will establish the fact that India does have good back up players like Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Sngh, Rohit Sharma who can take on Australia in any form of the game and with the likes of Saurabh Tiwary and Shikhar Dhawan knocking at the doors, it might become a problem of plenty for the Indian selectors. The Pakistani fast bowler was all praise for Indian Selection committee and mentioned that seems like the preparation towards the World Cup is on the right track as far as India is concerned comparative to the neighbors who are still struggling with the controversies and match fixing allegations.
Earlier, Indian Captain MS Dhoni also was of the view that there is atleast an allrounder, a fast bowler and a batsman’s slot still up for the grabs in the Indian Team. Hence this ODI series against Australia and the upcoming series against New Zealand should be able to zero in on those 3-4 bench players as well.
