Gambhir to captain Indian team

Opener Gautam Gambhir will take over the reins of the one-day team with the selectors resting skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the squad announced by the BCCI on Saturday. The 14-member team under Gambhir is for the first two ODIs.

Besides Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh have also been rested while Zaheer Khan is yet to recover from injury.

Meanwhile, the selectors also named wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha and seamers Umesh Yadav and Jaidev Unadkat for the three-Test series in SA.

The one-day series against New Zealand starts on Nov. 28 in the north-eastern city of Guwahati. The other matches will be at Jaipur (Dec. 1), Vadodara (Dec. 4), Bangalore (Dec. 7) and Chennai (Dec. 10).

Test squad for SA tour: M.S. Dhoni (capt), Virender Sehwag (vice-captain), Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, V.V.S. Laxman, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, S. Sreesanth, Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Wriddhiman Saha, Jaidev Unadkat, Umesh Yadav and Pragyan Ojha.

The first Test will be played in Centurion from December 16-20.
