Match Report:Tri Series Final: Sri Lanka vs India at Dambulla, Sri Lanka
Dambulla: The so-called Jinx of losing to Lankan army in the finals continues in spite of the Indian team which looked regrouped in the previous match. The mental battle was almost lost when Sri Lanka set up a huge target of 300 for the Indians to chase down. Such big targets were never chased by any team under Dambulla lights and the myth remained un shattered.
Sri Lanka after winning the toss straight away got into serious business with Dilshan taking the driver seat in piling up the runs in no time on a pitch which was touted to be a good batting pitch though not a flat pitch. Dilshan and Sangakkara vital knocks helped Sri Lanka to score 299 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the given quota of 50 overs.
Sri Lanka’s first wicket stand produced 121 runs when Praveen failed to appeal confidentally against Mahela Jayawardene, who was promoted to open the innings, in the first over of the game. This vital miss made Indians to pay heavily. This partnership laid the foundation for Dilshan and Sangakkara to take the lead to the next level. Jayawardene scored composed 39 runs before he was caught behind by Dinesh Karthik of Ishant bowling.
Dilshan and Sangakkara put up a partnership of 85 runs for the third wicket. Dilshan was the first to fall, he scored his eighth Odi hundred.Dilshan’s 110 of 115 balls which had 12 boundaries and a six. Before he left the field, he made sure his team was in commanding position. Sangakkara took the charge from there on with the help of lower order batsmen. Sangakkara fell on 71 of Munaf Patel bowling when the team’s tally was 261. Sri Lankans took all the Indian bowlers for a task. Dhoni’s one more gamble of playing four pace men back fired. He ran short of a bowler in finishing the specialist quote. Sri Lanka scored 299 for the loss of 6 wickets in 50 overs.
In reply, India lost its opener Dinesh Karthik for a duck. His poor run in this series ended on a miserable note. Sehwag on the other hand looked good for his 28 runs,he threatened to continue his sublime form but, was cut short when he was run out of the same ball of which he got a life when he was caught plumb in front of the stumps. Sehwag tried stealing a leg bye but was done in by the brilliance of Kapugedra.
The short stints by Kohli (37), Yuvraj (26) and Raina (29) didn’t help the cause as Dhoni from the other end waged a lone battle with tail enders. The captain’s knock came down the order which was too late for his team to go past the Sri Lanka’s target. Dhoni’s brilliant fight back of 67 runs came to end when he miscued and was bowled by Randiv. With captain’s departure, Indian chase came to end on 225.
Sri Lanka, yet again won the final match against India and this they won by 74 runs. Player of the match was given to Centurion Dilshan and Player of the series was given to Sehwag for his brilliant run in this series.

Tri Series: Match Report:Match 6: India vs New Zealand at Dambulla, Sri Lanka
Dambulla: Indian team strongly replied Akram’s comments. Wasim Akram criticized Indian team by calling them as ‘softies’ for their dismal performance in the ongoing Tri series. May be this ‘softie’( ice cream) offer by Akram didn’t go down well with Sehwag. Sehwag played one of the difficult innings on this pitch otherwise this pitch was blessed for the bowlers. Sehwag scored fourteenth century in his Odi career.
Indian bowlers, who looked weak throughout the series, pulled up themselves in this match to produce a match winning performance.
Praveen Kumar and Munaf Patel produced the match winning spells to send New Zealand packing. They rocked the New Zealand top order and tightened its chase. Both the bowlers took 3 wickets each during their spells. Nehra got the important wickets of Watling and Mills whereas Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja got one wicket each.
The trio bowled their heart out on a bowling friendly surface to give their team an edge and enter into the final. It was Praveen Kumar who started the rituals by sending Guptill for a golden duck when Praveen caught him plumb right in front of the wickets.Nehra took the stock and clean bowled Watling on 2. Praveen and Munaf struck third and fourth wickets respectively leaving New Zealand bleeding on 22 for the loss of 4 wickets. The entire Indian pace men got into act and won the match for India by scalping 9 wickets among themselves and leaving one for Jadeja. This brilliant performances by the bowlers helped helped India to win the match by 105 runs.
Earlier, India won the toss and opted to bat first on a bowling friendly pitch. A gamble which back fired early in the innings but eventually India rode on Sehwag’s brilliant innings of 110 to enter into the final.
India lost the gamble in the early part of the game when it started losing the wickets from one end of the surface where Sehwag was going great guns from the other end on the same surface. India lost its four top order batsmen by the time it put 66 runs on the board.
Sehwag’s batting made it look so simple as though he was batting on a planet “batting”. When the bowling was doing viciously lot he took the charge and scored heavily against all the bowlers. Sehwag’s scintillating 110 of 93 balls which had 16 boundaries and a six, helped India to come out of the traumatizing collapse. The partnership of 107 runs between Sehwag and Dhoni for the fifth wicket gave India a needed boost. Dhoni scored careful 38 runs of 75 balls.Jadeja and co helped India to set a decent target of 224 runs for the New Zealand. In reply, New Zealand was all out for 118 runs in the 31th over.
India won the match by 105 runs to enter into the final. The final will be played between India and Sri lanka.Man of the match was given to Virender Sehwag for his match winning ton.

Tri Series: Match Report: Sri Lanka vs India at Dambulla, Sri Lanka
Dambulla: Sri Lanka played a spoil sport in denying hundred when Sehwag played one of the most scintillating knocks.Sri Lanka didn’t allow him to score hundred in this match. Lankans applied a negative tactic and bowled wides and no balls. This cheap trick applied by Lankans hardly mattered to Sehwag. a magnamonious player, who mocked nervous 90s every time he reached there and tried either by hitting a six or got out while trying to hit a six to go past 90s. He murdered that nervousness wherever he played be it Multan or Melbourne.
When Sehwag was on 99 the score board read 170. It was when India eclipsed the Sri Lankan score. India needed one run to win and Sehwag needed one to get his hundred. The culprit bowler, Randiv bowled a no ball to stop Sehwag from scoring his hundred. According to cricket books, it says when the teams total are equal and if a no ball is bowled then match gets over irrespective of what batsman score the run. Sehwag blasted Randiv over long off for a huge six and raised his hands to gesture the victory as well as his hundred celebrations though it the team won this match but he couldn’t go past three digit mark.Sehwag smilingly raised the arms thinking both were achieved but, soon he learn’t that hundred wasn’t credited to his bank of hundreds (as per the cricketing rules).
Then what!! Sehwag went all the way smiling more than when compared to the incident, which in a way rubbed the salt in the face of the Lankan players. Greatness comes to those who remain magnamonious during their cause.
Sehwag (99), Dhoni (23) and Raina (21) helped India to win this match by 6 wickets after early jolt in the Indian innings. India lost 3 quick wickets for 32 runs. Sehwag and Raina built the innings from there and added valuable partnership of 56 runs for the fourth wicket before Raina was out on 21. Dhoni and Sehwag made sure that team didn’t slip further and added valuable 80 runs for the fifth wicket and won the match with a bonus point.Scintillating Sehwag scored 99 runs in 100 balls which included 10 boundaries and 2 sixes.
Earlier in the day,it once again proved that in this ongoing Tri-Series, every match is turning out to be a low scoring affair under the lights at Dambulla. The Indian bowlers with all more rejuvenation came firing all the cylinders when Dhoni (yet again) lost the toss.
Sangakkara won the toss and elected to bat first which back fired him, when Praveen Kumar came running with all steam pumped and rattled the wickets of Tharanga, when he pitched the ball and swung from middle stump to the off giving Tharanga no breathe for the lungs but made sure that the timber was whistle past under his nose. With this wicket, marked the day was belonged to the bowlers.
The Indian bowling line up used the swing and movement brilliantly and restricted Lankan cause. The top order of the Sri Lanka was wiped when the score board read 44. Sri Lanka lost 4 quick wickets and it was shared among the Indian trio pacers – Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma and Ashish Nehra.
It was Dilshan and the Tail Enders who revived the Sri Lankan innings. Dilshan, who missed few, miscued few yet managed to play a vital knock when the wickets were falling from the other end. He negated the seam, the bouncing conditions and launched few of the glorious shots during his 45 which came in 62 balls with 5 boundaries. The latter resistance and scoring came from the tail enders Randiv and Kulasekara who scored 45 and 22 respectively. This three knocks gave some respectable score of 170 runs under the given conditions.
In spite India getting the full hold on the match, still it let away by missing couple of run outs and the mis fields. The Indian bowling was back in rhythm and each bowler complemented each other well. The hardwork done by the pacers were well complemented by the spinners. Ojha remained the highest wicket taker in this innings. He took 3 wickets whereas Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja took 2 wickets each and Nehra took 1 wicket to restrict Sri Lanka for 170 in the 47th over. Sri Lanka set a target of 171 runs for India to chase.
Man of the match was given to Virender Sehwag for his scintillating 99 which helped India to win the match by 6 wickets.

Tri Series:Match Report: Match 2: Sri Lanka vs New Zealand at Dambulla, Sri Lanka
| Summary | Full Scorecard | Commentary | Statistics |
Dambulla: This series is turning out to be a low scoring adventure with every passing day. Barring New Zealand’s innings in the first match where it scored 280 odd runs.In reply to New Zealand’s 288 India was folded for 88 runs. And now in the second match New Zealand scored an achievable 192 runs. The pitch has lot do with the scoring especially if it happens to be the Dambulla pitch. All the three teams erred while scoring or chasing on this pitch. The myth of winning the toss and winning the match was shattered but, that too was achieved almost from a close shave.
Sri Lanka chasing a total of 192 crumbled in its innings and was finally achieved in 40 overs at the cost of 7 wickets. It was opener Tharanga and skipper Sangakkara who played vital knocks to help Sri Lanka win the second match by 3 wickets. Tharanga scored brilliant 70 runs on a pitch which was doing lot under the given conditions. The seam and bounce remained vital to provide that hostility to the situation.
Sangakkara lived up to his words when he said “if a team can’t chase under the low Dambulla floodlights and win isn’t a good team”, after losing the toss to his Kiwi counterpart.
Sangakkara sized up the pitch and read the conditions before launching some of his typical classy drives. Both Tharanga and Sangakkara put up a partnership of 85 runs for the second wicket when the team lost Dilshan’s wicket early in their chase. Sangakkara, who scored 48 runs in 62 balls, matched with his own shots and drove 6 boundaries. His partner Tharanga from the other end continued his patient yet attacking chase. Tharanga scored 70 runs in 109 balls with 9 boundaries to his credit, was out when the team score was 162. There was a mini collapse when the team was on it’ way towards the victory target. At this point, Sri Lanka lost 4 quick wickets for 18 runs. In the end Sri Lanka managed to win the match by 3 wickets.
Early in the innings, New Zealand won the toss and without any hesitation it choose to bat first like what it did in the first match against India. But, the Lankan bowling had more ammunition than India. The duo Malinga and Mathew rattled the Kiwis with their pace and bounce. Malinga began his destruction right from the first over of the New Zealand innings whereas Mathew after being expensive in the first couple of overs struck New Zealand with three blows.
The resistance from New Zealand came in the form of opener Watling and McCullum along with Styris contribution of 24 runs. Watling scored a fighting 55 to bail out New Zealand whereas McCullum scored 36 runs to give some vitality for the New Zealand’s cause. But, Lankan struck them at regular intervals and bundled out them for 192 runs in 49 overs.
Sri Lanka won the match by 3 wickets with Tharanga becoming the highest scorer of 70 runs followed by Sangakkara’s 48. Player of the match was undoubtedly given to Tharanga for his brilliant 70 during the team’s chase.

Dambulla:This careless fall comes on the close hills when the seniors just climbed down successfully after an adventurous mountaineering and who are already back home after having a wonderful trekking in the recently concluded test series.
India lost the opening match of this ongoing tri series which is being played between Sri Lanka-India- New Zealand. India was outclassed in the opener by massive 200 runs.
Indian innings was bundled out for 88 runs which lasted for 30 overs. Ravi Jadeja remained the highest scorer for India who scored 20 runs in 44 deliveries with 2 boundaries and the next were Sehwag (19) and Dinesh Karthik (14).This young Indian team yet again failed to impress their worth.
New Zealand packed the bowling line up with the pace men and the conditions favored them in rattling Indian inexperienced batting line up. Both the openers Sehwag and Karthik struggled to adjust with the pace. The moment they got to know the pitch and conditions, things started to go against India. India lost Sehwag in the 7th over when the score was 36. Sehwag’s wicket opened the floodgates and Like Sidhuism the Indian wickets fell like nine pins. None impressed with their technique.
Tuffey was the successful bowler who caused three dismissals and a brilliant run out of Dhoni. Ravi Jadeja, shown some resistance but fell on 20. Mills and Oram picked two wickets each whereas McKay and Williamson picked one wicket each. India’s listless chase came to end in the 30th over after scoring a pathetic 88 runs.
Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first in this Day-night affair. India’s “last laugh” lasted only in the initial 7 overs during New Zealand batting. Then it was Kiwis sky all over, which went flying new heights with great courage and determantion.Indian spearhead bowlers Ashish Nehra and Praveen Kumar struck three blows and left New Zealand in tatters. New Zealand lost 3 wickets for the score of 28 runs.
Ross Taylor and Scott Styris lifted New Zealand from Dumps and put their team on the pedestal by their brilliant and attacking cricket. A partnership of 190 runs for the fourth wicket between Ross Taylor and Scott Styris boosted away the New Zealand score. They played with caution yet attacking cricket. Styris was the first to fall when Ojha clean bowled him. Before that Styris hammered a match winning 89 which consisted 9 glorious boundaries and a powerful six whereas Taylor was unblessed to fall in the 90s. The inform Nehra struck Taylor for Lbw on 95.In his innings of 95 he struck 8 boundaries and a six.

For India, Nehra was the successful bowler who picked up 4 wickets by giving 47 runs in his 10 overs whereas Praveen Kumar was equally effective and picked up 3 wickets for 43 runs in 9 overs. The remaining bowlers remained expensive in their spells.

ICC must react. Cricket must played in Spirit of Game! It must reverse score and should give Viru 105 runs!
YES. ICC should tweak the rule to make it fair. For that BCCI should make a strong proposai. But will they do it?
BCCI should do this.Good to see players like Kapil,Sourav has questioned over it.If BCCI can appeal against the ban of Harbhajan,Gambhir, then why can’t go against ICC in this case?
Second incident by Lankans in last 2 years. At Cuttck, they denied Sachin’s ODI hundred by Malinga throwing a wide yorker and Sachin remained not out for the 18th time in nervous 90s.
